On 30 September 2026, the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP) hosted a discussion at its Berlin headquarters titled “Germany Rearmed – Germany’s Role as a Military Power”, organised by the journal Internationale Politik. The panel featured Dr. Liana Fix, Senior Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations, and Jan Techau, Director Europe at Eurasia Group. The discussion was moderated by the journal’s editor-in-chief, Martin Bialecki.

On 1 October, the GIGA Institute’s Berlin office hosted an event titled “Africa and the World: Citizens’ Views in an Age of Fragmentation”. Dr. Joseph Asunka, CEO of Afrobarometer, presented the findings of a survey covering 38 countries. According to the report, African publics do not see great-power rivalry as a zero-sum game. Ambassador Gesa Bräutigam (German Federal Foreign Office) and Prof. Dr. Matthias Basedau (GIGA) took part in the discussion.
